What is IBPS



About IBPS:


IBPS (full form - Institute of Banking Personnel Selection) is an autonomous body, constituted by government of India, which has been given the task of conducting recruitment and promotional exams of various PSU Banks, RBI, NABARD, SBI, Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) & General Insurance Companies (GICs). IBPS came into existence in 1984, when Personnel Staff Selection (PSS) Unit of NIBM was converted into autonomous Institute of Banking Personnel Selection.


IBPS Combined Written Exams (IBPS CWE)


Till 2011, IBPS used conducted independent and different exams for Clerical and Officer level jobs for different PSU Banks. In 2011, government decided to conduct one single exam for all PSU Banks. Hence, three Major Exams came into existence - IBPS PO (for Probationary Officer Jobs in PSU Banks), IBPS Clerk ( Clerical Jobs in PSU Banks) & IBPS SO (Specialist Officer Jobs in PSU Banks). IBPS RRB, combined exam for all Regional Rural Bank also followed in coming years. The first combined exam for PSU Banks was conducted in 2011 (called Common Written Examination - CWE).

Keeping in mind its hiring needs and long term vision, the largest PSU Bank of India - State Bank of India (SBI) did not participate in combined exams conducted by IBPS. Hence, every year IBPS conducts separate exam for SBI (PO, Clerical & Specialist Officer).

Important IBPS Exams

IBPS exams are generally conducted in the in the month of August - January. Generally the first IBPS notification is IBPS PO, then IBPS Clerk, followed by IBPS SO.
